A Newborn Session Close to My Heart

Newborn photography is something I truly love. From the squishy cuddles to those sleepy stretches and tiny expressions, being trusted to capture a family’s most precious new arrival is always an honour. Every session is special, but some stay with you forever.

This newborn photography session was particularly close to my heart, as I was asked to photograph beautiful baby Maddie — who also happens to be my baby cousin. 💕 Safe to say, this session came with extra cuddles, lots of smiles, and probably ran a little longer than my usual newborn sessions… and I wouldn’t have changed a thing.

A Gentle, Baby-Led Start

True to my natural newborn photography style, we began the session with Maddie relaxed and settled on my beanbag, simply doing her own thing. I always start sessions this way as it helps parents ease into the experience without feeling rushed or pressured.

This gentle beginning also allows me to read baby’s cues — seeing how settled they are and what kind of images we can comfortably capture. Every newborn is different, and I firmly believe the best images come from working with your baby, not against them.

Capturing Natural Family Connection

Once Maddie was settled, we moved on to family photographs with mum and dad. These moments are always some of my favourites — natural, timeless images that show real connection, love, and those first quiet moments as a family.

There’s nothing forced or overly posed. Just cuddles, closeness, and the kind of love that only comes with welcoming a new baby into the world.

Why These Images Matter

Newborns change so quickly. Those tiny fingers, sleepy stretches, and curled-up poses are fleeting. Capturing these early days means families can look back years from now and remember exactly how small their baby once was.

Being able to preserve those memories — especially for my own family — is something I’ll always treasure.
