A cake smash photo session is one of the most fun, joyful (and messy!) ways to celebrate your child’s birthday — and it’s not just for one-year-olds.

Whether your little one is turning one, two, or even five or six, cake smash photography is all about celebrating milestones, personality, and pure joy. I’ve even seen cake smashes for teenagers and milestone adult birthdays — there truly is no age limit when it comes to celebrating with cake!

Based in my cosy home studio, I offer relaxed, baby-led cake smash photography in Barnsley, welcoming families from Rotherham, Sheffield, Doncaster, and surrounding areas.

Your child is placed on the studio floor, a cake is set in front of them… and then we simply sit back and let them explore. Some children gently poke the cake, others dive straight in — every reaction is perfect and unique.

🍰 “You Put Them on the Floor?”

Yes — absolutely!

The flooring used in my studio is food-graded and used purely for photography sessions. Before every cake smash, the floor is thoroughly cleaned using non-toxic, child-safe products, so you can relax knowing your little one is safe while they explore their cake.

🎂 The Cake – What You Need to Know

Parents provide the cake for the session, and there are a few good reasons for this:

• I can’t bake (honesty is key 😄)

• My insurance doesn’t allow me to bake for clients

• Allergies and intolerances are much easier for parents to manage

👉 Top tip: Cakes with plenty of buttercream photograph beautifully and are much easier for little hands to smash.

Everything is styled to keep the focus on your child while creating clean, timeless images you’ll love for years.

👕 What Should My Child Wear?

I have a small selection of:• Nappy covers• Vests• Simple outfits

You’re also very welcome to bring your own outfit if you have something special in mind.

We always begin with clean portraits using a wooden cake, before bringing out the real cake and letting the fun (and mess!) begin.
